From 24th-26th February, 1915, the 2nd Gloucestershire battalion of 81 Brigade, 27th Division were holding the front line at St Eloi, to the south of Ypres. At 2am during their first night here, the enemy opened up heavy artillery fire on Trench No.21 as a result of which there were a number of casualties including Thomas Griffiths who was badly wounded. He died from his wounds on 1st March. |
